ANTHROPIC LANDSCAPES - ISLA MUJERES
May ︱June 2024
Anthropic Landscapes arises from a series of photographs I took in different areas of Cancún and the Marina of Isla Mujeres. These photographs show different levels of transformation of natural landscapes impacted by man. This exhibition brings together the landscapes corresponding to the Isla Mujeres Marina. Each work first functions as a record of the space's appearance as it was found when photographed. Throughout the Marina, stranded boats are already part of the area's mangroves and endemic vegetation, emblematic places, and boats that blend with nature and have been part of the environment for several years. Each landscape is reinterpreted in different media to show the transformations and the elements that interact with them from different perspectives. My creative process begins with walking the spaces where humans and nature interact. I take photographic records and collect samples of plants and materials from those places, later working on them using various techniques that allow me to transfer their imprint to different supports. I am interested in working with the footprint, leaving a record of the current natural species, and showing the processes of invasion, adaptation, and interaction between humans and nature from different perspectives to analyze and evidence these events.
